Transforming Human Health through the Science of Peak Performance
Watch Who we are
The Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance is discovering biological principles to optimize human performance and catalyze innovations in human health for all.
Almost all of what we know about health comes from the study of disease. Our scientific collaboration takes the opposite approach: we are studying peak performance, with the goal of enabling all people to achieve optimal health and well-being.
By comprehensively studying athletes of various ages, genders, ethnicities, abilities, and disciplines, the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance is trailblazing new possibilities.

Our Vision
We are discovering the fundamental biological principles underlying peak performance. With our newfound insights, we will develop breakthroughs in understanding, treatments, and technology to help all people thrive.
Our vibrant community of researchers, trainees, athletes, coaches, and clinicians is working together to help shape the future of human performance. We welcome new partners to join us in our endeavor.
Our Team
The Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance consists of three large public universities and three private institutions. It is headed by a National Leadership Council. Science and Sports Advisory Council members provide guidance to maximize the impact of the research.
Our Approach
Moonshot 1
The Digital Athlete, based at Stanford University, creates personalized predictive computer models to guide training and treatment for athletes and help improve human health for all.
Moonshot 2
Regenerative Rehabilitation, based at the University of Oregon, synergizes regenerative therapies and rehabilitation protocols to accelerate recovery of damaged tissues.
Moonshot 3
The Molecular Athlete, based at the Salk Institute, maps the molecules and gene expression that occur during performance to help maximize performance, healing, and recovery.
Moonshot 4
The Multiscale Athlete, based at UC San Diego, synthesizes experimental measurements across biological scales to predict molecular and cellular states and their effects on whole body performance.
Agility Projects
Agility projects provide funding for newly emerging ideas to additional collaborators from multiple disciplines, institutions, and countries, creating a global collective effort to advance the science of human performance.
Innovation Hubs
Translational research centers, such as the Female Athlete Program based at Boston Children’s Hospital, will help push the Alliance’s scientific discoveries into practice to improve the training, care, and performance of athletes.
Our Resources
The Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance makes our tools and resources freely available to enable others throughout the world to build on our innovations, research, and knowledge.
